Resources for Mandated Reporters

Join ITCP in a reimagining of mandated reporting

A New Approach to Mandated Reporting

At ITCP, we are reimagining what it means to be a mandated reporter as we work to decrease our reliance on the child welfare system. We know that the best support for families comes from those already in their communities.

Transforming child protection starts at the entry point – with the professionals who work with families day in and day out. The choice of whether to report is a challenging one, and much of the information out there doesn’t consider the complexity or humanity of making these decisions. Our training and resources fill this gap and are designed to give you a full picture of ethical, trauma-informed, and socially just reporting.

Training

ITCP has trained thousands of mandated reporters over the last five years, including professionals in the fields of education, health care, social work, youth work, after-school care, childcare, mental health, faith-community leadership, and law enforcement, to name a few.

We believe ethical reporting involves knowledge of the legal requirements as well as an understanding of the larger child welfare system, consequences for families in that system, and alternatives to reporting.   With that in mind, our training focuses on the history of reporting, areas of statutory ambiguity that allow for critical thinking and discretion, racism and parenting styles, risk tolerance and safety, and practical suggestions for how to ethically decide whether to report.

What to know:

  • Our base training is two hours and can easily be customized to the needs of your group.
  • We offer in person and virtual options
  • We train locally, state-wide, and nationally
  • Our base fee is customizable based on the size of your group and nature of your organization

Consulting

Policy Consultation

Having solid, clear, and thorough policies is the first step in understanding ethical reporting for your staff. We offer policy consultation-anywhere from building something brand new to reviewing what you already have and making suggestions.

Please email us for policy consulting rates.

Case Consultation

We advocate for consulting with someone before making a report. This could be a supervisor, a colleague, or any neutral person not concerned with liability. That means it could also be us! We are happy to walk through cases and hypotheticals with you.
